Anybody who has researched dieting or weight loss online has probably come across the GrapeFruit Diet. Supposedly you can lose about a pound a day over a two week period. There is also a 3 day plan for those who are not sure if they can stick with it for a whole two weeks. Different people claim to have had varying degrees of success with this diet. One thing is for sure however, it is not a permanent solution to managing your weight. It is a way to lose weight quickly and would probably work if you needed to drop a few pounds for a wedding or class reunion. Be aware however that once you go off the grapefruit diet the weight will come back. What you are losing is mostly fluids and not fat.
The theory behind this diet is that grapefruit has a natural ingredient that combined with a high protein diet will cause you to lose weight. You will only be allowed to consume around 1000 calories on this diet. 1000 calories is not a lot of calories for a person to consume in a day. You could probably eat almost any type of food and lose weight if you limited yourself to such few calories. Exercise is advised and there are of course certain things you are to eat. You will be asked to eat a grapefruit with each meal or drink a glass of unsweetened grapefruit juice. You will also be required to eat everything that is part of the diet. Even if you feel full you will need to finish everything on your plate. There is a grapefruit pill that you can take if you want to follow the diet but don’t like grapefruit. The pills can be purchased online.
What the grapefruit diet comes down to is that it is another quick loss weight diet plan. It will probably help you take off 5 to 10 pounds rather quickly if you need to. Long term it will leave you feeling disappointed. It is not a diet that allows you to change you eating habits for the better which is what you need to do if you want to be successful at controlling your weight. There are better ways to control your weight and return to health. Remember, results that last will not be accomplished as quickly as taking off 10 pounds in 2 weeks. Rather a successful diet plan will help you lose weight gradually while showing you what foods are healthy for you and teaching you how much to eat. Stay away from diets such as the Grapefruit diet and you will have a much better chance of losing weight and keeping it off.
